The Strathalbyn Community Garden is managed by about 12 dedicated members of the Strathalbyn Neighborhood Centre. Over the past three years, the group has created an inspiring productive garden for the community to enjoy. Interacting with and being involved with their community is at the heart of this passionate group of gardeners.

Whether members are engaging with school groups, doing cooking demonstrations including preserving and jamming, or keeping their Grow Free Cart stocked with plants, herbs and produce, this community garden is a real asset and productive hub in the community.

The main and central part of the grounds comprise around 30 raised beds growing all sorts of seasonal produce, and an interactive children’s play zone which is bounded by espaliered fruit trees.

Beyond this there is a bush foods garden that has been developed with the Strathalbyn Aboriginal Reference Group. Included in this area are plants used for dyeing clothes, fabrics and crafts. As one enters, there is a stunning memory and sensory garden which is planted out with an assortment of floriferous plants that will not only catch the eye but also attract beneficial insects to the area.
